Gelée royale, bee nectar or royal jelly is a special substance secreted by worker bees. It is an extremely nutritious liquid that larvae feed on in their first days and queen bees feed on for the rest of their lives (hence the name gelée royale, which translates to royal jelly).

Queen royal jelly is considered the most valuable product of bees-it is because of its active ingredients that the queen bee is larger than other bees and lives longer.
